Displaying The Project?
You want me to visit your parish. This what you need to know!
Once in a while someone will come up to me during a display and suggest a specific parish that I should display at. Sometimes they will just mention the name. Other times they will suggest I contact that location.
My usual response is to the effect of “If you want me out at a parish. Reach out to leadership and let them know about my work.” The reason why I often say this is because, thanks to the problems from this past season, me reaching out to parishes on my own doesn’t not always produce good results. Parishes are often busy with a lot of stuff. So some random guy who is not widely known is not going to get the parishes attention easily enough. I can easily talk to people about my work. I do it all the time. But most times I will either get no response or “your work is important but we are not interested”. Such is the challenge of self promotion.
The best ways for me to visit your parish is for you to reach out and talk to the leadership. Let them know what I’m doing and the mission behind my work. That way if they feel lead by the Holy Spirit they can reach out and invite me. I’ve had this happen a few times with good results. The other way is for me to make connections to the parish. Either with leadership directly or someone who is active in parish life.
If the parish decides that they want me to come out. A few things of note:
A display is where I bring the current season of The Lego Church Project out. A chance to share the build with others. Sometimes I also give talks related to my work, faith, and disability. Most times it will lead into a q/a where both children and adults can ask me questions.
I do not drive. So any parish that would like to host me will have to provide transportation for myself and The Project. This is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to displays.
I do not charge for coming out. Mainly because of transportation issue. That and a deep desire to share my talents and my mission with others.
I do accept donations from the parish. But that is not required. I will sometimes set up a donation box though that will vary from parish to parish. The money collected goes to cover some stuff related to work. Such as extra LEGO parts that can get quite expensive.
If everything such as extra accommodations can work worked out? I will go were the Lord is willing to send me.
I am located in Saginaw Township, MI.
Once The Project is built. It will be set up in a spot where people can come out to see it and I can go over details and answer any fine tuned questions about transport and such.
Target time is to start Season 25 build first week of Feb. Should be done by middle of March.
