Elections are a challenging time in our country. More so when we are electing the President of the United States. We huddle in our homes with trepidation as the results slowly come in. People who follow their respective parties of choice are going to be in a state of freak out mode. No matter which of the two main parties wins. Someone will be extremely upset/angry and in denial of the results. Either saying the election has been rigged. Or calling for removing the electoral collage. Violence and protests could erupt and innocent lives ruined because “the wrong person/party won”. It will not be an easy time for days and weeks on end. Sadly given the current nature of our world this cannot be helped.
By nature I am neutral when it comes to politics. I try and stay out of it as much as I am able to. Unless I can bring in some understanding as it relates to my own walk with Christ. So in that respect the results don’t bother me as much. Because no matter who wins my reactions and how I will live my life will not change all that much. Who runs the show won’t change how I view the world. For all things are a call for endless prayer. As a Catholic who has a very strong faith. I will pray for the conversion of hearts for all of our leaders. No matter which party they belong to. That they would be guided by the Holy Spirit instead of being driven by the temptations and the desires of the world. I will not invest my time in being overly critical or assume the worse in everything around me. Instead I will put focus into my prayer time, Rosary, and Divine Mercy Chaplet. In fact that won’t change from what I do normally.
During these times people will get upset and claim that they will defriend, disown, or out right dislike anyone who does not vote the same way they do. I won’t be doing any of that. I won’t treat anyone differently no matter who wins. I expect people to disagree with me so I’m not all that worried about it. Friends and family are very important to me. Who they vote for is not.
The one change I’ve made in the years of these past few elections is this desire to be more open about who I am as it relates to my faith. Being the evangelist for Christ in the age when followers face great risk for being ones who truly believe. Seems to be this notion of “separation of church and state” which to me is a fancy buzz term that means “keep your faith private and out of the public view.” As a Catholic I cannot do that. I cannot keep my faith private or hidden. We have an obligation to live our faith and we must hold fast and true to it. More so now in this current age that seeks to remove God from every space.
I close out this post with a verse which is a bit of wisdom on how all who claim to follow Christ should live: Isaiah 62: 1 "For Zion's sake I will not be silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet," -
