Every morning, I try and take a few minutes and spend some much-needed time in prayer. It has become part of my morning routine. I spend this time praying for the intentions of those around me. Along with the needs of the complex I live in and the prayer requests on social media. As well as friends/family, and the needs of the parishes I’m connected to. During one of these prayer times something really stood out to me:
That even one prayer has the power to change the world.
Given the state of the world this can be hard to believe or even accept. It is probably easier to give into the despair and negative emotions than to spend time asking for God to change things for the better. Yet our lives can be transformed if it is something that we desire.
Sometimes when I’m struggling with my own frustrations the question “where is our faith” comes to mind. A question that I tend to ask far too often. It has become very clear to me that as I spend my time in prayer. God is very much at work. Even if we don’t always see what is going on. Even when the struggles, fears, and the frustrations do not seem to be letting up anytime soon.
It can feel like a wasted effort when it seems like no one else is praying on the same issues that are troubling you. God still hears and will answer that one prayer. God is willing to listen to the faithful.
Take the time in the day to pray for what is going on around out. For what may be troubling your heart. You may be surprised how those prayers may be answered. Even if are the only ones praying. -
