Over the last twenty five years I’ve been at the helm of The Lego Church Project. While doing the builds and displays are important. Their is another aspect of my work that sometimes get overlooked. My writing.
In the past I would have argued that I’m not really a writer on any level. Yet over the years this has changed a lot. To the point that it has become an extension of my ministry.
Lot of this started on my personal Facebook account. I would post these semi articles and reflections about stuff I saw going on around me. Sometimes it related directly to the faith. People that followed me started to comment and tell me that I have a great sense of wisdom in my words. Also suggested that I should try and write a book. So I started the first version of Praying At The Bricks which was just a simple collection of my posts from FB. The goal was to have place so people (friends and family) could see what I was writing and were not on FB at all.
Over the years I’ve done a fair amount of articles. Some of them have been shared by others. The writing allows me to take what I’m doing with The Project and expand on it. Putting focus on issues related to faith and disability. Along with reflections as it relates to my work.
With my writing I am trying to share my thoughts that relate to the people around me. To allow them see the world though my own eyes. I seem to have an ability, or talent, to try and make sense of the world though the lens of disability.
A strange fact is that locally I am known in the diocese as the guy who builds the giant churches out of LEGO. However few in the region know about my writing. Those that do, including a few priests, enjoy what I am sharing.
Writing has become, for me, a true extension and another platform to explore the faith. It has also become an important part of my work. The overall goal of my writing is the same as The Project: To give hope to those facing their own kind of challenges. To give understanding of the faith though my own unique world view.
As I reflect on the last twenty five years I am always in prayer about what I am doing. May the Holy Spirit guide me in this journey. By the Grace of God I am still standing. -
