"If god existed you wouldn’t have cerebral palsy?"
This was a comment directed to me recently. Though our entire lives we run into many challenges. Yet what makes things so amazing is how we chose to deal with them. We could easily say "their is no God because I have this" or we can say "I am thankful to God for what I have been given."
To a degree it hasn't always been an easy road for me. Times of internal struggle and self-doubt. Combined with this feeling of not being comfortable of where I am at in life. Lot of that coming from the milestones I see my friends make and realizing that some of them I may never enjoy. However I take comfort in knowing that God is very much with me. Helping me though some of that struggle.
You look though the lives of the Saints. Many of them also had struggles and health issues. Some even had what we would consider a disability today. Yet we look up to them for what they managed to over come. I know that in my own way I am doing more than what I ever thought I could. God, for me, very much exists and I am thankful for all that God has given me. Though the challenges and struggles I learn. I still grow. I get to spend time reflecting and praying.
If you would like to learn more about the Saints that have disabilities or challenges. If you can still find it. Pia Matthews wrote a good book on the subject called "God's Wild Flowers: Saints with Disabilities."
By the Grace of God I am still standing. -JM
