Someone suggested the other day that I should do a display in a parking lot. While that would be amusing it would kind of limit what I could do overall. In theory I could display The Project at any location that would host me. In fact, I’ve done some fun venues before. Some Catholic. Some not Catholic. One year I displayed at an outdoor concert. I’ve done family fun fairs. Bazaars. And even a LEGO themed event. That being said. Parish displays are still the best way for me to share the talents God has given me.
Bazaars and other events are fun overall. Lot of people over a short amount of time. But it doesn’t give me the chance to go into more detail about the Mission of my work. Also doesn’t allow me to visit with the parish community and see how they are building the kingdom. Sometimes a Bazaar can be combined with a parish display. Such as the display I do at Assumption Parish in Midland, MI.
Of course, the biggest challenge with my work is even getting me and The Project over from Saginaw Township, MI to where I need to be. Because I don’t drive and I don’t have extra transportation. The ride issues alone are one of the biggest stumbling blocks. It’s why some parishes just don’t want to make the commitment. This is the problem I’ve run into with a few rejections. Like when Holy Family turned me down a few years ago. Adding to the mix is that some parishes or other locations just don’t understand the mission.
I’m pretty much a one-man operation who has to rely on others to help with the displays. I’m not supported by any Catholic group or organization. I’m not teamed up with anyone really. I’m just a guy with a mild form of cerebral palsy who is trying to show no matter what challenge or disability you face God can still use your talents. It is a reflection of my own life and the challenges I face.
My greatest desire is to serve the Lord using the talents He has given me. Just need a little bit of help to make it happen. -
Christ The Good Shepherd Display
While we are a long way from Advent. It is important to start getting the word out about the end of my current season. Along with a prayer and an appeal to those who are fans and supporters of my work.
I’ve been bringing The Project out to my home parish since 2003. Back when our parish was called St. Helen. It has always been a goal of mine to share my talents and to share this amazing parish I’ve called my spiritual home for most of my life.
This season I would love to bring more visitors to the parish during the display. To have people see our parish. To hear the homilies of Fr. Christopher and Deacon Dale. To hear the music from our small choir which is led by David Hammond. It is such an important part of who I am as it relates to the life of the church.
If you are going to be in Saginaw around Advent and Christmas. Please consider stopping out. Also please keep this display in prayer. I really do want to see an amazing turn out this year.
Still looking for a few more displays
I have several weekends free until mid-November’s display at Assumption Parish in Midland, MI. I’m still looking for a few more parishes to bring Season 26 out to before then. If you know of a parish that might be a good fit. Please have them reach out.
Recent tragic events
The recent events at Annunciation Parish in Minneapolis weigh heavy on my mind. It seems that no matter where you go violence is ever present. My heart goes out to the families of all who were involved in this recent vile act. My prayers are with you. May the Holy Spirit guide all of us to find ways to set aside the human desire to engage in violence.
