One of my favorite passages in the Bible has been the Conversion of St. Paul that is recorded in the first part of Acts 9. It is an important moment in the church were Saul of Tarsus sees Christ before him while traveling on the road to Damascus. This happened after Saul went on a crusade to wipe out followers of The Way. After this encounter Saul was never the same.
The “road to Damascus” has been on my mind a lot as of late. Wondering how many times we’ve had our own experience with this. Events that take place that transform and change us. Allowing ourselves to draw closer to Christ in an amazing and profound way. Giving us the chance to become more dedicated to serving the Lord.
In my own life I’ve probably had more than a few such moments. Some often being more subtle. A nudge in a direction that I had not considered. Or something just as dramatic. Such as the blood sugar issues I had years ago. Or one of the times I crashed my bike because the crankshaft broke. Yet these moments do not always have to be so dramatic as what happened to St. Paul. The whispers of God are just as important as the roaring wind. Events that shape us and transform us to be better followers of Christ. Drawing us closer into His service.
Everyone will probably have at least one or more times in their life where they feel like they are also on the road to Damascus. Events that can shape and transform our lives. Such things can either make us stronger or break us completely. St. Paul had such a moment and it changed the direction of his life completely. May the Holy Spirit work in us as well. -
