The Fellow is inside The Old Church on a weekday afternoon. Though he’s not in the main area for once. Years ago, The Old Church had a small adoration chapel established. Inside it contains the Eucharist. Which is Christ fully present: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. The chapel allows people to come in and spend time sitting and praying. Sometimes spending long hours being with Christ. Today he is the only one present. The Fellow takes his time being in prayer with Christ.
Adoration is an important part of the life of the church. Taking the needed time to sit with Christ directly. It is something that The Fellow has challenges with. His busy life does not always give him the opportunity he desires. So, these moments are very important to him, and he takes advantage of it when he can.
When The Fellow is in the chapel. He is lost in with in Christ. In many moments he will remain completely silent. Saying nearly nothing at all. Living in the moment. Other times he talks to Christ directly in a quiet whisper. As one would have a conversation with an old friend. Bringing to our Lord all that troubles him in this life. The burdens and struggles that The Fellow has a nasty habit of carrying. With the issues going on in the world. Adoration seems to be a lost part of our parish life. Yet sitting with Christ can help to bring about a level of peace the world will deny us.
As he spends his time in much needed prayer. The Fellow reflects on a discussion he had with a man of another Christian faith. The debate being on why Adoration was even needed if Christ is everywhere. To a degree the man wasn’t completely wrong. Christ is always present around us. However, inside the Tabernacle Christ is present in a physical form contained in the Eucharist. It gives people the chance to sit with Christ if it is something they truly desire.
These moments are far too few and often very fleeting for The Fellow. Yet even spending five minutes with The Lord is greater than all the treasures that are on Earth. It is truly a shame, The Fellow thinks, that so many people miss out on this. A shame that so many don’t realize it’s importance in our faith.
There is no telling how long The Fellow stays in the Chapel. Being alone with Christ time passes differently for him. No other care exists in the world. For a chance to lay down everything that bothers him. To be at peace as he sits with our Savior. Inside The Old Church. -
