A short reflection
The word revival has been making the rounds again. Something I ended up reflecting on recently as it relates to the church. These are a few of my own thoughts.
If the desire is for a true revival with our parishes. Then we must stop all this bickering and infighting online and with each other. We should be more focused in living the Gospel and sharing the faith. Along with understanding that our parishes should be open and welcoming communities. Realizing that we all have a stake in the existence of our parishes. That we have a role in that parish life and should do more to help our parishes thrive.
Your not going to gain any kind of ground by debating which form of the Mass is superior and which one is heresy. Not going to help matters by treating the church as a hotel for the pious instead of what it was intended: a field hospital for the broken. This kind of negative mindset is off putting and only serves to keep us divided. The evil one always seeks this kind of division and we play right into that when we spend our days trying to be right. Instead of trusting in the Holy Spirit.
Because of the work I do with The Lego Church Project. I have had the chance over the years to visit a lot of parishes. The ones that always stand out to me are the ones that put the community first. They are the ones I feel the most welcome at. Some of them have been very liberal. Others more conservative. Yet they all share the same common element: a welcoming spirit and accepting of those who walk into that church. They are active in sharing the Gospels with those around them and clear in what their mission is in the life of the church. We need more of that. If we truly want a revival within the church. We go back to the very beginning and build the foundations with our parish communities. Be the parish where those who come in know that we are willing to be there for them. That can make more of an impact than most will realize.
The Gracious Guest!
Not long ago I had a the chance to talk with Mike Creavey over on his show. We covered a lot of topics related to The Project and to disability and prayer. Give a listen and let me know what you think.

A recent interview
In the same week I recorded with Mike. I was interviewed by OSV for a story on disability and the church. I think things turned out rather well. If you get a chance please take a read!
